Privacy Policy

The short version

Every diagnostic on Secondlook runs inside your own browser. We never receive, store or transmit your camera feed, microphone audio, keystrokes, screen contents or any serial number. There is no account, no login and no database.

What the diagnostics do with your hardware

The screen, keyboard, trackpad, speaker, microphone, camera and stress tests use standard browser APIs. When you start the microphone or camera test, your browser asks your permission and the resulting stream is processed entirely on your device and discarded when you leave the page. Nothing is recorded, uploaded or retained. Your browser permission can be revoked at any time in its site settings.

What is stored on your device

• Your inspection progress — pass/fail results from the guided audit are saved in your browser's local storage so you can close the tab mid-inspection without losing your place. It never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
• An offline cache — a service worker stores the pages and scripts so the site keeps working with no signal, which is the point of a tool you use at a meet-up. It holds no personal data.

Advertising

This site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors at aboutads.info.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you are shown a consent prompt before any personalised advertising cookie is set, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time through the same prompt.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links to retailers are affiliate links. Following one may set a cookie on the retailer's own site that credits us if you buy something. That cookie is set by the retailer under their privacy policy, not by us, and it costs you nothing extra. See our affiliate disclosure.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export or erase on request. Data held by Google in connection with advertising is governed by Google's privacy policy. Under the GDPR you may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
